A Parliament of Owls

I drew this crazy little group of owls at work today (using my old buddy, Microsoft Paint), between projects and phone calls.

Did you know a group of owls is called a parliament of owls? A group of hummingbirds is a called a charm, a group of crows is called a murder (I had heard that one before, didn't even need to look it up!) and a group of storks is a mustering.  Amaze your friends with your mastery of random animal trivia by checking here:

What a Hoot!

I made this cake for a baby shower several weeks ago (maybe even a month now). The cake is a chocolate cake, using this recipe from Hersheys website:

The frosting is my go-to Swiss buttercream recipe (12 oz sugar, 8 oz egg whites, 16 oz butter, flavoring) and a chocolate ganache (chocolate and cream, cooled and whipped) for the branches and border.

Owls

I've been thinking a lot about owls lately - and drawing them, too. What makes the difference between a serious owl and an angry owl? One v-shaped line? Are big eyes what make a cute owl? I doodled owls for a week in preparation for creating these two owl-themed ATCs.
Below is a funky, retro owl that I did in Microsoft Paint the other night. Working in Paint is probably a good exercise for me in doing drawings that are more graphic and simple.
