New Work

It's probably pretty obvious that I've been going through a long creative dry spell this year. Since I left pastry school, I've been struggling to figure out what to do next. While I'd love to make a living making cakes, there is a small matter of needing to have health insurance and being able to pay my bills :(  So, I've been trying to figure out what's next and have been working a pretty terrible temp job in the meantime. Truth be told, the schedule is terrible and leaves me with little energy at the end of the day for anything creative. So, I'm looking for something better and trying to keep on truckin'.

My sister and I decided to participate in the Red Hot Art festival again this year. It's the only festival we'll probably do this year but I thought I better have some new work to show for all my MANY fans.

Painted Cakes

I've been practicing some fondant techniques and trying out some new ones. I've been wanting to try painting on fondant and to see if I can translate my painting style to fondant. This birdy and flowers looks a little more tropical than I had wanted and also looks a little like a tattoo. Overall, I'm happy with it.
Here is another view - you can see the ribbon at the bottom in this one.
Extreme birdy close-up!
Here is the other cake I decorated. Same basic color scheme but a really different style. This one is a little more whimsical and maybe more fitting for a teen or child.

I combined fondant cut-outs and painting with this one. Below is a pic of both of them together.

Little Bird

I am experimenting with adding stitching/embroider to my canvas paintings. This isn't the best photo but it shows the general idea.

New Painting

I have been itching for a break from my usual nature paintings. I used to paint mostly figures and portraits but have gotten away from it lately. I tried out a simpler sort of style than usual. What do you think?

Fall Tree and Links to Other Projects

Here is a picture of a cool fall craft project that I did with some friends a little while ago. It was fun and pretty easy. The idea was originally posted on this blog:

It was also posted here, along with a lot of other really cool projects:

Some Paintings

Here are some terrible pictures of one of the paintings I did for the office. I couldn't get a decent picture of them hanging on the wall but didn't have time to scan them before hanging them up. So, you can see the reflection of the fluorescent lights :(
