Caturday - Spring Edition

This is my sister's kitty, Lion-o. He loves coconut water. Apparently he also loves coconut ice milk but he's not getting any today. For humans only.

Orange Roses and Bird (Drawing)

Sorry for the lack of Caturday posting yesterday. I had to work all day (blergh) and had an event to go to last night. Maybe I'll make up for it with two cat pictures next week?

Anyway, here's one of my latest MS Paint drawings that I did at work. I probably won't have too many more of these since my job has changed and I have less down time. I love turquoise and orange together!

Maybe someday there will be actual real live flowers growing outdoors. I'm staring to doubt that we are going to get any spring here in Minnesota. We might just jump right into summer. My sister pointed out today that the summer solstice is exactly two months from today. What?! I know that can't be true because I am staring out the window at a yard full of snow and slush.

Rainbow Cake Topper (Using Paper Straws!)

Cute rainbow cake topper. And a bucketload of rainbow sprinkles.
The colors for this spring have been white and various shades of grey. Blah Blah Blah.  I made this cake for St. Patrick's day/celebration of my sister's 11/12th birthday (yes, she likes to remind me every month how long until her next birthday).

This is an easy type of "banner" to make. Simply cut colorful paper straws into smaller sections. String your straw "beads" onto a length of embroidery floss or twine. The heart is made from some sparkly glitter paper with a little "tag" that is folded over to string it on. The side supports are more straws slipped over wooden skewers for extra support. I couldn't find any tape so I tied the thread to the side supports. Tape (or cool washi tape) would be much easier.

You could make the cake white or blue for a rainbow-themed party! There are so many types and patterns of paper straws available. I got mine from Target! There are a ton of options of these websites:

Macy's Flower Show Minneapolis (The Painted Garden) - Part 2

This year's theme for the Macy's Flower Show was "The Painted Garden". Here is how their website describes it:

"Drenched in a spectacular palette of colors, this year's show evokes the inspiring architecture and vibrant spirit of south Asia"

This little elephant is just a preview of the one in the actual showroom on the 8th Floor.

Dozens of these colorful umbrellas hung from the ceiling of the showroom.

This little display was pretty but definitely weird because they obviously painted the trees. Huh?!

I just loved all of the bright colors here....the orange and blue works so well here.

I love the idea of this little cut out and the red and purple colors together.

The dark, cavernous lighting actually highlights the beauty of this dogwood tree.

This elephant is obviously the focal piece of the flower show, greeting visitors when you first  walk in.
The elephant's flower blanket is so beautiful! It must have taken such a long time to create.
