Thrift Score - Retro Cakes

A few weeks ago, I bought several old Wilton decoration books from the late 70's for about a buck total.
Here's a pic of the covers. I especially enjoy the photo in the middle of the girl with the cool feathered hair.
I thought I might be able to get some retro-cool decorating ideas or at least have a laugh. Here's what I found:
The pretty good.........

....The Not Bad (at least in a kitschy kind of way)......

.....And The Ugly (not to mention Creepy and/or Weird)

These are interesting to me, if only because they seem to be even MORE creative than a lot of the cake decorating books that Wilton has out today. I love the one with the legs and feet coming down the side of the cake. That is for sure a great little option!

Hay Cherish, You may not remember it but your Grandma had that 3-D kneeling Lamb cake pan and used it every Easter for quite a few years.I think maybe it's creepy factor is increased by the cataract eyes in this illistration.I remember thinking it reminded me of some kind of sacrifice cutting it up then.I guess we were just lucky she didn't make it out of red velvet cake

I agree the dancing feet one is pretty cool. What I like about it is that they kept a square shape but did something creative with it. I'm kind of over the cakes-carved-in-shapes trend; it's possible to still have an awesome cake that is round or square!

Oh - and I'm glad that I don't remember the lamb cakes of my youth. Too creepy! The only thing creepier would be a bunny with red icing eyes!
